"Despite knocking around this part off the Perigord for nearly twenty years, it took our neighbours to suggest this venue. Quiet and with classy but bucolic decor with the 'Menu Surpris' to be recommended. Perfectly judged pace and portions, fairly simple ingredients of exquisite quality well cooked at then surprisingly reasonable prices. The wine list is much less parochial than is often sadly the case when in the heart of a wine producing area! A good middle of the range lower Burgundy sat well with most of the courses. The sturgeon was a pleasant excursion for those of us from the colder end of Europe. The last course was the least impressive and fell foul of the French obsession with Chantilly cream but everything else was so good that by then nobody cared! The value for money and ambience more than protected it from losing a star for that. After all you are in France so go with the flow. The service was friendly and crisp but not rushed. One nice touch were beautifully balanced and finished hand made knives from a local Nontron artisan.One small suggestion when offering a blind five course menu would be to offer a glass of matching wine with the different courses (which in the region could be done at sensible prices too)?A first class evening and we will make this a regular haunt. If as an earlier review suggests that they are open Mondays they can count on seeing us again plus many friends using our hovel a couple of Communes away."

Peu de professionnalisme de la part des serveurs...malgré le peu de clients dans le restaurant, il a fallu attendre un moment nos quelques demandes (non, il a plutôt fallu que j'aille chercher moi-même l'une des serveuses qui a ensuite oublié de m'apporter la sauce en question). Remarques désobligeantes à la suite d'un client visiblement "pas poli" au téléphone, agacez par d'autres clients qui ne sont pas venu "il est 13h20 ils sont toujours pas là !" "Pfff, 13h40 ils sont toujours pas là les autres. C'était 13h la réservation) (Oui, notez qu'on vous entend faire ce genre de réflexions...)Manque de gâteaux à l'apéritif quand on commande un verre (oui des vrais, pas uniquement de l'anchois et un feuilleté sans gouts). Les plats ont été présentés sans savoir quel accompagnement allait avec ?Aucune présentation du café gourmand non plus (C'est dommage, le cuisinier dresse très joliment les assiettes et les plats sont bons, mais on ne sait pas ce que l'on mange...)Et pour finir : Monsieur et madame les serveurs arrêtez de vous prendre le choux devant les clients !"

What we received was awful cold food, poor service and an upset stomach! "Accueil très chaleureux dans un beau cadre. Le patron fait le tour des tables discuter avec les clients. Les serveuses sont sympas, plaisantent avec les clients. Bonne cuisine simple mais goûteuse et généreuse. C'était dimanche midi et surprise, à 16 heures le patron a mis sa sono en route et a animé un bal dans la salle. Super ambiance."
