"Had to wait 90 minutes for two meals. The wait was bad, but the dishonesty about when the meals would arrive was the worst. After about 45 minutes I was told the meals were 5/10 minutes away. When I asked about 30 minutes later I was told one of the meals was actually ready, but the we didn't see the food until about 20 minutes later. If the chef had been honest about it we probably would have gone elsewhere. The reason they gave for slow service was that lots of orders came in at the same time. Lots of dinner orders around 7pm, absolute shocker! We did get a refund, and the food was tasty when it came. I've had a decent experience in the past, about a 40 minute wait, so was hopefully just a one off. Maybe better for just a drink, though."

"Friday night 7.30pm, with 16 friends from work for Christmas dinner. Nice atmosphere, service reasonable, but pre ordered food was very slow to appear. I had beetroot gnocchi to start tiny portion, disappointing, but flavours good. Main was sea bass the bass was very small very thin fillet , with plated potato jacket? weird and charred leek, both soggy, and not very hot: the red cabbage side was okay, needed some proper Christmas seasonings and flavouring. Dessert, cheese board, very poor served as a small plate not board initially with no cheese! The cheese, when delivered was two small slices of very modest cheese alongside barely cooked sliced onion ? chutney, average small crackers, some celery nice and two slices of under toasted bread the cheese ensemble was embarrassing and very poor value avoid. One medium glass of nice dry white. Whole bill was over £50. Poor value."

"Eight friends were visiting the nearby Pendon Museum and needed a lunch break. Liam and his mother were super helpful. A private room a good selection of beers (including Butcombe) and a comprehensive pub lunch menu. Those who had the sausages and mash were still talking about them as we drove home to Somerset! The Fishpie was full of fish including smoked haddock, with plenty of cheese and a giant prawn for topping. The burger was pronounced excellent too. The Abingdon brewery Loose Cannon was remarked upon too. Large Sauvignon Blanc went down well too. We did not give more than a couple of hours notice for our visit but received a warm welcome. Food and drink were exceptional. A great pub."
