"Gus's Pub has a set schedule for entertainment, details of which are available in The Coast newspaper. The only night I'd advise skipping is Mega-Comedy Mondays; this has been a dud every time we've been. The bar staff are friendly and efficient, but you do need to behave yourself, low shenanigans-tolerance is in effect. The clientele is quite eclectic for such a dive! Ace Burgers are delish, worth the visit. There's a separate room for gambling machines, if that floats your boat. It reeks of desperation. The main bar is dingy and ill-kept; the carpets are redolent of years' worth of spilled drinks and worse. The washrooms (ladies, at least) are surprisingly clean, even towards the end of the night. Bring cash, or get hosed at their off-brand ATM. Limited parking at the side on Agricola. Gus's is a slice of Halifax grunge!"

"A truly Canadian experience away from home as well as at home. We ended up here on a late cold evening as the local sea food cafes had wait times of 3/4 of an hour or more. Nice place to relax and enjoy good food after a day of sight seeing in Halifax. Always great food from coast to coast."

"The last time I went to Smitty's was out west, and their reputation wasn't the greatest, which is probably I've waited until now to go to this local one near my house. I was very pleasantly surprised though. The service was prompt, friendly and excellent and the food was way better than I remember it being. I ordered a custom breakfast that wasn't on the menu and the waitress brought it out exactly as I requested. Very impressed. Love the bottomless coffee as well. The menu is so huge though, making a decision can be tough. Can't go wrong with their all-day breakfast though."

"Do not let the exterior of this building for you. Although it looks a little rundown from the outside, it is very nice inside, resembling the inside of an old sailing vessel. The waitress was extremely friendly and the food was very good. Service was...a little bit slow, however; we did special order and the waitress did come back to our table multiple times to let us know that she was sorry it is taking a bit longer than usual."

"Had a fantastic server great value for food but the ribs on this vosit were about a 2 or 3 usually 4 or 5 star. Note to management 2 mice were running around in dining room so get pest control in . Ive been to Kempt road many times and this was a first spotting mice openly running around"

"Seems like a good place to stop in for a pint after work. Only been twice. Male bartender is very good and efficient. This evenings pint was cold and nicely poured. One waitress was laughing, loudly alot; another was reading their social media, out loud, to other waitresses. Very distracting."

"Decided to stop in to grab some supper during a day out on a nice hot day.Our server was absolutely fantastic,Food was amazing and the atmosphere was great.Only reason I gave a 4 on atmosphere is we were on the rooftop patio and found that there wasn't enough umbrellas and the sun was directly in my face the entire time. But that is a very minor thing and really didn't take away much from a fantastic experience"
